Supplier Development (Process) Engineer in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China

Responsibilities

  • Serve as local hands-on support in mainland China and especially in Shenzhen/Dongguan area for direct communication and presence in supplier sites
  • Define best-in-class processes to meet all design and operational requirements
  • Develop and document processes, parameters, consumables and secondary operation requirements to meet defined specifications
  • Work with Sourcing Managers to define and establish supply chain requirements utilizing
    selected equipment and manufacturing partners
  • Provide leadership and support – both technical and operational – at manufacturing sites
    during development and production ramp
  • Develop supplier capabilities – identify gaps and improvement opportunities and work
    with suppliers to execute improvement plan
  • Perform technical audits focusing on manufacturing, capability, and resources
  • Work with engineering and other cross-functional teams to drive technical and operational issues to resolution with appropriate urgency
  • Use data to drive process decisions and influence product and industrial design, including part tolerances and specifications
  • Identify, research, develop, and qualify equipment manufacturers and suppliers
  • Partner with Sourcing Managers and Product Designers to optimize product design and
    manufacturing processes for cost. Specific process competency should include forming
    and machining, cosmetic finishing, coating and deposition processes, assembly, injection
    molding, and assembly processes.
  • This role will require significant domestic travel within China to various supplier manufacturing
    sites.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of direct experience working in a mechanical manufacturing environment as a
    Supplier Development Engineer, Supply Base Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer,
    Manufacturing Design Engineer, Supplier Industrialization Engineer or equivalent role
  • Experience working in a high volume NPI environment
  • Experience managing operations and supply within a high volume manufacturing
    environment.
  • Deep understanding of CNC, Lathe, and other machining techniques for high
    cosmetic components
  • Experience with PVD coatings and anodization including strict process control to
    meet color and reliability standards
  • Experience with other materials such as plastics, silicones, and brittle materials
  • Automation and other advanced manufacturing techniques to minimize touch
    points and improve quality and cost
  • Ability to analyze failure modes and identify process or design root causes
  • Ability to apply design of experiments (DOE) approach to drive and validate corrective
    actions
  • Knowledge of advanced manufacturing, fixture design and fabrication, qualification
    procedures, and factory operations.
  • Ability to apply engineering knowledge and experience into product and process design
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply quality controls, including capability analysis
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work with and influence cross-functional partners
  • Ability to travel extensively within Mainland China
